New Research Project: SNSF Agora - "Matura AI Guide"

Supporting and Assessing Written Work with AI

How can young people use AI while thinking independently, critically, and creatively? How can teachers support them with this process and assess their work appropriately?

In the SNSF Agora proejct "Matura AI Guide", we are working with our project partner Smartfeld and partner schools to develop and test practical learning resources and guidance tools for upper secondary education (Sekundarstufe II). The program is designed for teachers who supervise matura theses, research papers, project work along with documentation or other written assignments.

Developing and Giving It a Try Together

We combine insights and materials from our university project "AI-enabled Academic Writing" with the experiences and needs of schools. In doing so, we take into account different work formats and school-specific requirements. Possible components include:

  • Kickstart Learning Paths: Perparing students to get started on their own work.
  • Prompting Guide: Stimulating critical and creative thinking with targeted questions - developing own ideas, questioning assumptions, and discovering new perspectives.
  • AI-supported Argumentation Training: Justifiying claims, requesting advice, and evaluating counterarguments.
  • Support and Assessment Tools: Designing feedback, processing documentation, and technical discussions, as well as evaluating product and process quality.

Schools select appropriate modules, test them in their daily routines, and provide feedback to help with their further development. Joint meetings and webinars provide opportunites for discussion and reflection on their own experiences.

Funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) as part of the Agora funding program. In cooperation with Smartfeld.
